Colin is now 67 and has a wealth of some 49 years of engineering experience across Civil, Structural and Geotechnical engineering fields. Colin is still vibrant and active and not intending to retire for some time as he enjoys engineering and mentoring the development within his team.
He started work as an Engineering Officer Cadet with the Ministry of Works, working in Auckland and Whangarei gaining NZCE, then a BE at Auckland University.
During his 10 years with Works he gained a sound broad experience including Survey, Roading Design, School site development, Bridge Construction, Geotechnical, Laboratory work and Structural design.
Colin spent 13 years during his career with local government holding the principal engineering position with four different authorities including the former Onehunga Borough and Kaipara District. Again gaining a broad experience inclusive of Town Planning, Water, Stormwater and sewer reticulation, roading, etc but also gaining an appreciation and understanding of how Councils function, which has been of assistance in providing service to clients.
Colin also worked for Holmes Consulting Group as a site engineer on high rise buildings and as development engineer on an industrial complex. Colin also worked for TSE group in a structural and development engineering role, before setting up his own practice at Warkworth which he has since sold to concentrate on the practice set up in Christchurch to assist with the rebuild following the September 2010 earthquake. He first volunteered to assist Civil Defence then stayed on in Christchurch as there was a desperate need for engineers. In moving to Christchurch to assist with the recovery, Colin took an active interest, making submissions to the Royal Commission on base isolation, submissions to MBIE on development of guidelines for rebuilding and actively pursued an in depth understanding of liquefaction, undertaking a post graduate paper at Canterbury University on Advanced Liquefaction Studies.
Colin’s interests are: Flying, vintage cars and motor caravanning with his wife and best friend Sandra. Colin is happily married and has four adult children.
